JOB DESCRIPTION

Per Diem LVN II Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician, perform nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in a hospital inpatient setting or outpatient clinic of a hospital, Public Health or Mental Health clinic; and do other work as required. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is not an independent practitioner. Licensed vocational nurses in this class have one or more years of experience working as an LVN. Per diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an on-call basis. Positions in this class are distinguished from the Licensed Vocational Nurse IPer Diem level in that the latter perform work in clinic assignments with the Department of Mental Health, Community Health Agency or the Riverside County Regional Medical Center (RCRMC). Licensed Vocational Nurse IIPer Diem incumbents are either permanently assigned to work in an acute care assignment or they have full-time responsibility for directing and supervising staff and operations of a clinic. The Licensed Vocational Nurse IIPer Diem is distinguished from the class of Nursing AssistantPer Diem in that a state license is required of incumbents assigned to the former class and they perform a more highly skilled form of patient care. Per Diem LVN I Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner or physician, performs nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing, in the care of patients in a hospital inpatient setting or out patient clinic of a hospital, Public Health or Mental Health clinic; and to do other work as required. Incumbents of this class are assigned to work in clinic assignments. Per diem personnel are distinguished from regular employees in that they receive additional compensation in lieu of County fringe benefits and work assignments are flexibly scheduled or on an on-call basis. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is not an independent practitioner. Licensed vocational nurses at this class level have less than one year of experience working as an LVN. The Licensed Vocational Nurse IPer Diem is distinguished from the Licensed Vocational Nurse IIPer Diem in that the latter have one year or more of nursing experience. The Licensed Vocational Nurse IPer Diem is distinguished from the class of Nursing AssistantPer Diem in that a state license is required of incumbents of Licensed Vocational Nurse IPer Diem positions and they perform a more highly skilled form of nursing care.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Possession of valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association for professional healthcare providers. A valid California Driver License may be required for some positions in this class.

Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is an integrated health system delivering exceptional care to residents of Riverside County, through a network of skilled healthcare professionals. RUHS includes the 439-bed Medical Center in Moreno Valley accredited by the Joint Commission, 10 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), specialty clinics, and the departments of Behavioral and Public Health.
