Our Northern California office is based in San Francisco. The Northern California office seeks solutions to a range of the most relevant and pressing affordable housing issues facing California, especially the Bay Area. We foster cross-sector partnerships that include nonprofit developers, government agencies, and advocacy organizations and work in collaboration to advocate for policy and create systems change that result in greater racial and economic equity in the Bay Area.

Interns at Enterprise Northern California play an integral role in developing and advancing program and/or policy work alongside our experienced staff. You will gain exposure to our region and/or state’s affordable housing challenges and key stakeholders. Interns will also experience working from the perspective of an intermediary. Our work is frequently characterized as advancing solutions through activities such as providing technical assistance, convening practitioners and advocacy coalitions, and collaborating with cross-sector partners including but not limited to public agencies, community-based organizations, affordable housing developers, researchers and academics, and funders.

About the Internship

This position will report to the AHSC Program Officer in the Northern California office. The Affordable Housing and Sustainable Transportation Program (AHSC) Technical Assistance (TA) Team works throughout California to help applicants develop high quality projects that advance sustainable neighborhood development. Since 2014, 20% of all of California’s Cap and Trade auction proceeds have been available for the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program for competitive awards to projects that reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) by integrating quality transportation infrastructure and green affordable housing. Being competitive for AHSC funds requires multi-faceted teams and innovative projects, presenting uncommon challenges to development teams. Because of the technical complexities that the AHSC application presents, Enterprise established an AHSC Technical Assistance (TA) program in 2014 to ensure that innovative, environmentally impactful and community-serving projects are funded.

The Mapping Intern will work with Enterprise’s AHSC TA Team to support application development. They will be responsible for creating tools to gather necessary content and develop feature maps that meet the requirements and specifications of the AHSC program. The Intern will also help build the mapping capabilities of the AHSC TA teams by creating mapping templates.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Map Development—Identify map content requirements and develop tools for gathering content from TA recipients and develop high quality maps for +/- 40 applications.
  • Communication with TA RecipientsCorrespond with applicant teams over email to collect information and refine maps.Attend project calls, when possible, to help troubleshoot any mapping issues.
  • Capacity Building—Support the long-term provision of technical assistance and capacity building by developing templates in ArcGIS Pro.
Qualifications

Desired qualifications and skills:

  • Prefer continuing graduate student or undergraduate with professional experience in public policy, urban planning, or related field, or comparable professional experience;
  • Experience and fluency with ArcGIS Pro and graphics programs required;
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel;
  • Ability to research and synthesize information quickly and effectively to produce high-quality and visually appealing materials;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including highly effective written and verbal communication;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills;
  • Good team player;
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and sustainable transportation topic areas preferred; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice.

The internship period is from December through March. Internship hours are flexible; however, 10-20 hours a week of workload is expected. The position will be compensated $30 an hour[GS1] .
