ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Coordinates and maintains a comprehensive risk management program, including safety, loss control, self-funded workers' compensation plan, employment and environmental liability, other insurance coverage and risk identification. Ensures the proper maintenance of a uniform and efficient data collection and reporting system.
Processes claims related to worker's compensation, general liability, auto liability/collision. Fire/casualty claims related to investigation, subrogation, and litigation of self-insured risk claims.
Selects implements and monitors suitable methods to identify and analyze specific risks.
Develops, administers and/or coordinates proper risk control procedures in accordance with Colorado state statute, workers' compensation laws and other applicable laws/regulations.
Responsible for the insurance approvals for Public Hearing agenda items and all roadway events held in , thereby insuring that 's liability is protected at all times.
Manages a broad range of insurance coverages and multiple operating strategies to accommodate 's specific insurance needs.
Develops and implements safety programs and ensures compliance with federal and state safety laws and all applicable resolutions and regulations.
As the initial and primary point of contact, acts as a liaison for claims, between employees, the general public, physicians, worker's compensation insurance companies, etc. in the processing and settling of claims.
Assists in claims investigations by making inquiries of physicians, hospitals, employees, and the general public regarding the extent of injuries or damages. Visit accident site after employee accident/incident.
Responsible for coordinating claims related documentation required by the County Attorney's office, the County's Third Party Administrators, the Designated Physician, Colo. Division of Work Comp, County employees/departments, insurance agencies and the general public.
Review the established financial reserves for individual claims and report significant changes to such financial reserves that may be recommended by the respective Third Party Administrator
Maintains claims files; properly files updated correspondence (e.g., general liability, property, automobile, workers' compensation, etc.); promptly notifies third party administrator when there is a change in the employee's work status.
Maintains software and numerous databases through various types of software to generate statistical reports and graphs
Maintains perpetual inventories of employees, volunteers, and insurable values of all County property, including buildings, contents, equipment, vehicles, supplies, etc
Responsible for maintaining Self Insured status with the Colo. Division of Work Comp by
preparing semiannual payroll and surcharge report and submitting within the designated time period.
Responsible for obtaining updated copy of the annual NCCI Experience Modification forms as required by the Colo. Division of Workers Compensation.
Prepares monthly reports and coordinates the collection of data involved in the renewal of insurance policies with other County departments as appropriate; collects data, prepares reports, and makes suggestions regarding changes/increases in insurance coverage and/or policy.
Coordinate and manage the Safety Team including coordination of meetings and topics and providing analysis and reports as needed.
Coordinate with Insurance Carrier to provide Certificates of Insurance as needed by various departments. Verifies vendor's insurance coverage meets requirements set forth in the bid documents and road permit applications.
Coordinate and instruct safety trainings and coordinate with departments in the updating of all safety and evacuation manuals as required to meet goals.
Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in risk management, insurance, claims management, or related field and minimum two (2) years of related experience.
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
