Overview:
The Material Management/Buyer is responsible for the procurement of material and services as assigned by the Director/Manager of Material Management. Must understand inventory control in order to minimize stock and non-stock orders. Must be able to communicate with department managers regarding discrepancies, pricing, substitutes and backorders. Must be able to prioritize duties for optimum productivity. Able to process and organize purchase orders and receiving documents for Accounts Payable
Responsibilities:
Orders all storeroom supplies on a periodic basis to ensure sufficient stock and plan proper stock organization.
Responsible for developing daily orders of routine General Store supplies and non-stock orders.
Review and evaluate appropriate vendor selections for “stock” and “non-stock” purchasing.
Interact with sales representative in product evaluation and selection.
Ensure use of Contract Agreements, also updates manuals as needed.
Maintain purchasing document files within General Stores to ensure a smooth and timely processing of daily ordering.
Interact with departmental managers and other hospital personnel regarding backorders, vendor selections, product specifications, etc.
Knowledge of the automated inventory system in all factors of its utilization and application.
Resolve price discrepancies in a timely manner.
Perform all other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. High School Graduate or Equivalent.
2. AA Degree Preferred.
3. Previous recent hospital experience as a buyer preferred.
4. Knowledge involving the acquisition of equipment, supplies and policies and procedures.
5. Ability to utilize Material Management Information system (MMIS) and EDI.
6. Strong communication skills.
